# Your own domain

> Connect a domain you own — or buy one through REALsite — and make it your site's address.

Your site works from day one at `yourname.myrealsite.ca`. A domain of your
own — `sarahsellswinnipeg.ca` — is the finishing touch: it goes on your
signs, your cards, and your listings, and it stays yours wherever your
career goes. **Whether you buy it through REALsite Domains or connect one
from somewhere else, the registration is in your name. You can manage it
yourself and transfer it when registry transfer rules allow.**

## Buy one through REALsite

Open **Settings → Your domain**, enter the exact `.ca` or `.com` you want, and
choose **Check availability**. Finish searching and checking out in the branded
REALsite Domains store. Only the domain you selected in REALsite will connect
to that page; another domain added in the store will stay safely unconnected.

REALsite currently supports new `.ca` and `.com` registrations. Registration
and renewal are charged separately by the domain store; they are not part of
your monthly REALsite subscription. The store shows the current price before
you pay.

When registration finishes, OpenSRS notifies REALsite securely and the page
updates automatically. You can close the store or the REALsite page while it
finishes. There is no domain name to re-enter and no confirmation button to
press. A different domain bought in the same store stays unconnected; REALsite
will never substitute it for the one you selected.

The domain store applies REALsite's DNS template. REALsite then confirms that
the domain belongs to that checkout and finishes its secure certificate. You
do not need to copy DNS values. You can leave while it works; if setup is still
delayed later, the page says so while REALsite continues retrying. The
**Manage registration** button brings the account owner back to the domain
account for renewals, contact information, DNS, or transferring the domain.

OpenSRS may email the registrant to verify their contact address. Complete that
request promptly; an unverified registration can be suspended by the registry.

For safety, paid purchases and the registrar account stay with the account
owner. An **Admin collaborator** can connect or check an existing domain inside
REALsite, but cannot enter the registrar account or spend money. A regular
**Collaborator** handles everyday site work.

## Already own a domain?

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Settings → Your domain">
    Expand **Already own a domain?**, type your domain, and press **Connect a
    domain I own**. The DNS records to add appear, each with a copy button.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add the records at your registrar">
    Choose Cloudflare, GoDaddy, Namecheap, Porkbun, Hover, or **Another
    provider** in REALsite to see directions for finding the right DNS screen.
    Add the four records exactly as shown: one TXT record proves the domain is
    yours, the CNAME connects `www`, and the A and AAAA records connect the root
    domain. Using Cloudflare for DNS? Set each record's cloud icon to **DNS
    only** (grey) — not Proxied.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check your records">
    Back in Settings, press **Check my records**. Certificates usually
    issue within minutes of the records appearing. When the badge says
    **Live**, your domain is your site's address — the old
    `.myrealsite.ca` address forwards to it automatically, so nothing
    you've already shared breaks.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The same domain controls are available for a **Property site** or **Landing
page**. Those domains open only that focused page; your main domain continues
to open your complete website.

## What about email at your domain?

Once your domain is live, `sarah@sarahsellswinnipeg.ca` looks a lot better
on a business card than a Gmail address — see
[Email at your domain](/docs/help/email-at-your-domain).
